Manas Jasper is a specialty of Manas County in Changji, Xinjiang. Manas jasper is produced in the depths of Tianshan Mountain in Manas County, northern Xinjiang, and has a long mining history. It is one of the early jade varieties developed and utilized in China, and it is a medium-grade jade. Manas jasper is bright in color, fine in quality and good in luster, and its quality is comparable to that of Kunlun jade and Hetian jade. Manas jade mine was originally owned by the royal family in the Northern Song Dynasty, and was later sealed for the imperial use by the Emperor Kangxi of the Qing Dynasty. Manas Jasper is characterized by spinach green, dotted and striped white spots, and ink spots. It is grayish green, dark green and dark green, with black spots, black spots or jade ribs, and the quality is slightly poor. Jasper contains more than 90% tremolite, with delicate texture, translucency and oily luster, which is a mid-range jade. The color tone is uneven with gray and black spots, with pure dark green as the top grade. Jasper has a strong color and solemn hue, which is suitable for carving large landscape ornaments or heavy and quaint vessels. There are many excellent jasper products in the jade collection of the Forbidden City. Manas Jasper is located in Manas County, Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region, with 43 34 ′ to 43 42 ′ north latitude and 85 43 ′ to 86 04 ′ east longitude.
