There is a long history of planting broad beans in Huangzhong County. Because of its clean air, pure water quality, suitable natural conditions, broad beans have large grains, good luster, no insect erosion, high protein content and no pollution. Compared with similar products outside the province, it has better commercialization and is the dominant crop and the main export agricultural product in Qinghai Province. The perennial planting area of broad beans in the county is 160,000 mu, accounting for 22% of the broad bean area in the agricultural area of the province. The main varieties are Qinghai No.3, Qinghai No.9 and Qinghai No.10. These varieties are high-yield, large-grain, mid-late-maturing varieties, with a growth period of 125-146 days, a plant height of 110-155 cm, strong branches, 3.5-4 effective branches per plant and 1.9 double pods per plant. The grain size is large and the quality is good. The grain protein content is 32.7%, starch 41.8%, fat 1.4%, methionine 1.03%, threonine 0.88%, phenylalanine 1.04% and lysine 0.66%. Primary dry seed broad beans are mainly exported to Japan and other countries, and are famous for their "Huangzhong Broad Bean" brand.
