Xunyang Red Rock Cattle is a specialty of Xunyang County, Ankang City, Shaanxi Province. Red Rock Cattle is one of the excellent local cattle breeds in Shaanxi Province. The production area of red rock cattle is located in five towns, such as red rock and Shimen, at the junction of Shaanxi and Hubei. For a long time, this breed has been bred to form a strong red rock cattle strain of Bashan yellow cattle, with more than 18,000 existing herds. The coat color of red rock cattle is yellow and yellow-red, and a few are smoky or black. The horns are short and thick, mostly Longmen horns and bamboo shoots. Strong body, strong constitution, well-developed famous species and good muscle adhesion, it is a dual-purpose meat. The weight of newborn male calves, female calves, adult bulls and cows is 27-38kg, 24-30kg, 395 36kg and 283 39kg, respectively. Red rock cattle have strong service performance. Bulls can cultivate 2 mu of land every day, with a service life of 13-17 years, which can be used for 25 days continuously. Bulls are sexually mature at the age of 1-2, mated at the age of 2-3, and have a reproductive and utilization life of 12-15 years. Cows are sexually mature at the age of 1.5, and can be used for 15 years. Estrus is mostly concentrated in April-July. Generally, two babies can be born in three years, and one baby will give birth to one calf. Under grazing fattening, the slaughter rate of rock cattle is about 45%, the net meat rate is about 34%, and the meat production performance is good. Red Rock Cattle is gentle, flexible, adaptable, resistant to cold and heat, good at climbing, resistant to intensive feeding, dense and firm hoof, and resistant to moisture. It is an excellent strain suitable for breeding in mountainous areas of southern Shaanxi and has a bright future.
