Pingli Gynostemma pentaphyllum, a variety of Chinese herbal medicines, is a specialty of Pingli County, Shaanxi Province, and is a symbol product of chinese national geography. Pingli is the natural distribution and differentiation center of Gynostemma pentaphyllum, known as the "hometown of Gynostemma pentaphyllum", and its unique regional micro-ecological environment is very suitable for the growth and development of Gynostemma pentaphyllum. It is the earliest and largest artificial cultivation base county and national Gynostemma pentaphyllum standardization demonstration area in China. Gynostemma pentaphyllum products in Pingli county are popular in Japan, Beijing, Guangzhou and other markets with natural, pollution-free and trace elements. Gynostemma pentaphyllum is praised by the medical community as the oriental god grass and the gospel grass on earth, but it requires high conditions such as soil and climate. China is located in Pingli County, a humid monsoon climate zone in the north subtropical zone, except for a few plants in Fujian, Hubei, Yunnan and Sichuan provinces. Because of abundant rainfall, mild climate, abundant sunshine, long frost-free period and low content of harmful substances in soil, it has become the best area for planting demonstration bases of ecological medicinal plants in China. According to statistics, in 2007, the cultivated area of Gynostemma pentaphyllum in China was about 70,000 mu, and only Ankang City in Shaanxi Province developed Gynostemma pentaphyllum industry. The cultivated area of the whole city was 28,000 mu, accounting for 20,000 mu in pingli, and the cultivated area and raw material output accounted for more than 35% of the whole China. Gynostemma pentaphyllum is a unique variety in China, and the effective substance content of the selected improved Gynostemma pentaphyllum varieties is 5 percentage points higher than other varieties and regions, which is at the international leading level. Pingli County is the natural distribution and differentiation center of Gynostemma pentaphyllum in China. Among the 16 species of Gynostemma plants found in the world, this county accounts for 7 species, with saponin content as high as 12.2%, ranking first in physical and chemical indexes. According to the Product Quality Law of People's Republic of China (PRC) and the Provisions on the Protection of Geographical Origin Products, the General Administration of Quality Supervision, Inspection and Quarantine passed the examination of the application for the protection of geographical origin products of Pingli Gynostemma pentaphyllum, and approved the implementation of geographical origin protection for Pingli Gynostemma pentaphyllum from December 13, 2004 (Announcement No.189, 2004). Scope of geographical protection The geographical scope of origin of Pingli Gynostemma pentaphyllum is subject to the geographical scope proposed by People's Letter on Defining the Protection Scope of Pingli Gynostemma pentaphyllum (Pingzheng Zi [2003] No.12) in Pingli County, Shaanxi Province, and it is the administrative area under the jurisdiction of Pingli County, Shaanxi Province.
