Siniperca chuatsi, also known as bitter flower, lives on moss and plankton, and likes to live in high-altitude streams with water temperature of about 10 degrees Celsius. Generally, it can be seen in clear streams at medium and high altitudes in Taiwan Province, especially in the upper reaches of Zengwenxi in Alishan Township, and Danayi Valley in Shanmei Village is called "the hometown of Siniperca chuatsi". There are two kinds of snakehead fish, namely, common snakehead fish and tall snakehead fish listed in the "national treasure" conservation category, and the adult fish can grow to about 25 cm long. The herring's back is pale black, its body and abdomen are silvery white, and its mouth is in the shape of a transverse crack shovel to scrape the moss on the stone. When its mouth moves, its silvery abdomen also turns with its body, forming a strange landscape of silver in the water. In order to distinguish the difference between tall herring and common herring, we can judge from its curved mouth shape and body shape, the former has a slightly raised mouth shape and a wider body shape, while the latter has a bent mouth shape and a slender body shape; And the former mostly inhabits streams with deep water and rapid flow, which is very rare and precious.
