Origin (or distribution) of Tibetan alpine yaks: Qinghai-Tibet Plateau in northwest Tibet and Sanjiang Valley in south Tibet: 2.5 million yaks in stock in 1981. Main characteristics: Mountain yak and grassland yak are divided into two groups according to their body shape and appearance. The coat is mainly black and color. The head is slightly biased, the forehead is wide and flat, and most of them have horns. The grassland angle is the head-holding angle, and the mountain angle is outward and upward. The chest is deep, the back and waist are straight, the abdomen is large and not drooping, the rump is narrow and slightly inclined, the tail root is low and the tail is short. The hooves are small and round. The adult bull weighs 280 ~ 300 kg and its height is 118 ~ 122 cm. Cows are 190 ~ 200 kg and 104 ~ 106 cm respectively. Daily milk production is 1-1.5 kg, annual butter production is 9-10 kg, lactation period is 305-396 days, and annual milk production is 138-230 kg. The slaughter rate of adult steer is 53%, and that of adult cow is 46%. The carrying weight is 50 ~ 80 kg. The shearing amount of bull is 1.6 kg, that of cow is 0.5 kg, that of steer is 1.7 kg, and the average cashmere yield is 0.5 kg. Males and cows are sexually mature when they are 3 years old. The first mating age of bulls is 3.5 years old and that of cows is 4.5 years old. The reproductive rate is 31-51%, and most of them have one baby every two years.
