Cultural allusion Rongchang pig breed has been formed for more than 400 years, and it was bred by hardworking and intelligent Rongchang people. It is well-known at home and abroad for its excellent characteristics such as strong adaptability, good cross combining ability, stable genetic performance, high lean meat rate, excellent meat quality and good white mane. In 1957, Rongchang pig was included in the Dictionary of World Livestock Varieties and Famous Species published in Britain, and became an internationally recognized precious pig breed resource. Reviewed by the National Animal Genetic Resources Management Committee, Rongchang Pig was listed as an excellent local pig under national key protection by the Ministry of Agriculture in the Seventh Five-Year Plan because of its "high lean meat rate, white color and specific genetic traits". In August, 2000, the Ministry of Agriculture identified it as one of the 19 pig breed resources under national protection. In 2001, the Ministry of Agriculture designated Chongqing Breeding Farm as a national Rongchang pig resource farm. Rongchang pig is a geographical indication certification trademark.
