This species has wide adaptability, high and stable yield, and it is really outstanding among many longan varieties, so it can be further popularized as fresh longan in the future. Tongan pineapple ear longan is a specialty of Tongan District, Xiamen City, Fujian Province. Tongan "pineapple spike" longan has the characteristics of thick and transparent meat, soft and small core, red color and little sweet residue, which can be used as medicine and tea, and it is deeply loved by consumers. Tongan pineapple spike longan is a geographical indication certification trademark. Longan cultivation in Tongan District of Xiamen has a long history and rich variety resources. There are nearly 50 recorded varieties and strains, with an existing area of 90,000 mu and an annual output of 25,000 tons of fresh fruit. Longan production plays an important role in the agricultural economy of Tongan District, Xiamen, and is listed as one of the six longan bases in China. At present, the main variety promoted in Tong 'an District is "pineapple spike", and its planting bases are mainly distributed in hou xi zhen, jimei district, Lianhua, Hongtang, Wuxian, Tingxi and other towns in Tong 'an, with a cultivation area of 30,000 mu and annual fresh fruit output of 10,000 tons. "Pineapple Ear" Longan ear can reach 50 cm long, with large, uniform and beautiful fruit, thin peel, thick and crisp flesh, sweet and palatable taste, and the best fresh food. Tongan "pineapple spike" longan is a famous fruit in Tongan District, Xiamen City. It originated from Makun Natural Village, Xitang Village, Xinmin Town, Tongan District, Xiamen City, and has been cultivated for more than 100 years. It was discovered by the Agricultural Technology Extension Center of Tongan District, Xiamen City in 1980 in the general survey of longan variety resources in the whole region, and developed and expanded. "Pineapple Spike" longan has excellent variety characteristics of "shoot-washing resistance", high and stable yield, excellent fruit quality, and slow sugar withdrawal of mature fruits. Combined with the high grafting technique in Tong 'an District, "Pineapple Spike" longan has been widely planted, with an area of 36,000 mu in 2012, and has become the main variety of longan in Tong 'an District. In 2007, it passed the variety identification in Fujian Province, and in 2010, it passed the scientific and technological achievements appraisal in Xiamen. In 2011, the project won the second prize of Xiamen Science and Technology Progress Award.
