Tongling ramie

Tongling ramie is known as the "king of ramie" in ancient times, and it is also one of the eight treasures of Tongling, such as gold, silver, copper, iron and tin, ginger and pockmarked garlic. According to the Records of Tongling County and other relevant historical data, hemp is a traditional specialty of Tongling. In the last year of Shunzhi in the Qing Dynasty (AD 1655), there were ramie, jute, white hemp, ge hemp and other varieties in Tongling County, which were mainly distributed in the hilly areas, with Jinlang, Zhongming, Xinqiao, Zhucun and Dongdian as the majority. In the mid-1980s, Tongling ramie textiles were popular in domestic and foreign markets, and Tongling textile industry was also in a period of development and growth. The demand for ramie increased sharply, and the price of ramie rose from 3 yuan to 13 to 20 yuan per kilogram. Farmers have destroyed mulberry and grain fields to grow ramie, and the planting area of ramie has increased rapidly. Tongling land is suitable for all fine ramie cultivation, and the fine ramie varieties such as Luzhuqing and YuanJulia have been further optimized in Tongling. In 1986, the area of hemp in Tongling County reached more than 7,000 mu, including more than 7,000 mu of ramie, with a total area of more than 20,000 mu. Only one year later, in 1987, the area of ramie in Tongling increased by more than 7081 mu, of which 7032 mu of ramie was more than 28,000 mu. At this time, the cultivation technology and production scale of ramie in Tongling had become the largest production base in China from all over the world. This is the heyday of hemp planting in Tongling. Compared with other ramie, Tongling ramie is more rugged, crisp, elegant, light, cool, breathable and antibacterial, and its superiority and unique style are incomparable to ordinary ramie. At present, the comprehensive economic strength of [Anhui's largest linen spinning enterprise] owned by Tongling ranks in the forefront of the national linen spinning industry. In 1999, at the China International Textile Expo, the flax products produced by the company were listed among the "Top Ten Famous Brands in China".
