Ma Qiao Qing Xia

Maqiao Village is located on the south bank of Qingyi River, a tributary of the Yangtze River. There are 430 households and 1,458 people in the village. The total area is 4800 mu, including 1600 mu of cultivated land, 2000 mu of low-lying land and 2500 mu of aquaculture; In 2007, the village was designated as a special village for aquatic products in Wuhu County, and in 2008, it was designated as a new model village for farmers' training by the county agricultural committee. In 2009, the provincial agricultural committee was designated as a "new rural construction-a demonstration village for shrimp industry". In recent years, through various measures such as guidance, demonstration, training and promotion, the total area of aquaculture in the village has reached 3560 mu, forming a variety of ecological farming modes, such as double-season farming, rice and shrimp breeding, mixed culture of shrimp and crab, and mixed culture of fish and shrimp. The annual output of freshwater shrimp in the village is 300,000 kg, with an output value of 27.23 million yuan. The total income of freshwater shrimp industry accounts for 86.9% of the total agricultural income in the village. This alone drove the per capita net income of villagers to increase by 12.5% in 2010, which was higher than the county average of 22%.
