Hu sheep produced in Tongxiang were domesticated from the north. It is said that when the Song Dynasty moved south, a large number of people in the northern Yellow River valley also moved south, which brought a lot of Mongolians in the process of migration. After their owners settled in Jiangsu and Zhejiang, these sheep gradually changed in shape, appearance, wool and other aspects after long-term domestication of soil and water in the south of the Yangtze River, forming this kind of Hu sheep widely raised by farmers in our city at present. According to this calculation, Hu sheep has been raised in our city for more than 800 years. The lamb skin slaughtered by the lambs produced by Hu sheep is commonly known as Xiaohu sheepskin. This kind of leather was sold abroad for the first time in the 12th year of the Republic of China (1923). It was designed by the exporter as an "ancient bell" board for export. It has been exported for more than 70 years, and it has been listed as one of the "four big lambskin" in the world, and is called "soft gem" in China. The exploitation and processing of small lake sheepskin is very demanding. Lambs that have been slaughtered and skinned must have not been breastfed within one or two days after giving birth, and it is useless if they have been breastfed. During skinning, different methods should be adopted according to the lamb's body shape. Skinning should be fine, skin washing should follow the fur trend, nail skin should be elastic properly, skin should be aired without violence, and the whole skin should be combed lightly. Only in this way can the fur quality be ensured. Xiaohu sheepskin produced in Tongxiang has white fur, wavy pattern, soft leather, elasticity and bright luster. It can be dyed in various colors and made into various types of clothing, which is favored by foreign businessmen. Almost every family in rural areas around our city keeps Hu sheep in captivity, and at most, it can produce hundreds of thousands of small Hu sheepskins every year, ranking first in the country in terms of its purchase volume. In the past, most of the small lake sheepskins in our city were exported from raw skins. With the progress of technology, we can now manufacture finished products for export. Coats, women's coats, mattresses, children's clothes, etc. made of small lake sheepskin have become important products for earning foreign exchange.
