It is called Ningbo inlay, a famous traditional handicraft. It is made of Luodian, ivory, ox bone slices, boxwood, colored stones and other materials, carefully made into decorative patterns such as flowers and birds, landscapes, ladies, etc., embedded in mahogany and rosewood wood blanks, finely polished and painted with China lacquer. There are three types: flat inlay, high inlay and high inlay. The insert is exquisite, beautiful in shape and fresh in style. In China, the inlay technique can be traced back to the ancient Longshan culture period. The bone-inlaid coffin unearthed in the ruins of the Yin Dynasty in Anyang, Henan Province is made of animal bones and shells. Ningbo bone wood inlaying inherited China's ancient inlaying, woodcarving and painting skills, and inlaying products were exported in Sui and Tang Dynasties. The ebony chessboard and the double six plates collected by Japanese Zhengcang Institute are among them. By the Qing Dynasty, Ningbo's inlay technique was more perfect. The octagonal coffee table collected in Renshou Hall and Lechun Hall of the Summer Palace in Beijing was a treasure presented by local officials in Ningbo during Guangxu period. After the founding of the People's Republic of China, new varieties have been increasing, including all kinds of screens, furniture, clocks and so on. Products are exported to some countries in Asia, Europe, America, Africa and Hong Kong and Macao.
