Echinosaurus Zhenhai

Echinosaurus Zhenhai

Echinosaurus Zhenhai belongs to Amphibia, Anura, Ephemeridae and Echinosaurus. Only distributed in Beilun District, Ningbo City, Zhejiang Province, China, it is a rare species endemic to China. In 1932, this species was first discovered in a small hill called Ban 'ao in Ruiyansi Forest Park, Chaiqiao, Beilun District, Ningbo, and only one specimen was obtained. At that time, it was named as Zhenhai Wart. In 1984, its name was changed to Zhenhai spiny salamander. This is also the only unique rare wild animal named after Ningbo. In 1989, the State Council designated it as a national second-class protected wild animal. According to the long-term observation of experts from Chengdu Institute of Biology, China Academy of Sciences and other scientific research units, there are only about 350 breeding groups of Echinosaurus Zhenhai distributed in Beilun Forest Farm at present, and its population number is less than that of extremely endangered species such as giant panda and northern salamander in Xinjiang. There are two known species of Echinosaurus, namely Echinosaurus Zhenhai and Echinosaurus Ryukyu (currently only distributed in Ryukyu Islands of Japan). According to the analysis of the historical data of Chinese mainland and Japanese Ryukyu Islands, this genus has a history of at least one million years, and it is a typical remnant group of salamander family, which can be called a living fossil.
