Taixing Yuanmai is a specialty of Taixing City, Taizhou City, Jiangsu Province. Millet seeds are called "glutinous rice" after being finely ground into powder, and cooked into red or light brown glutinous rice porridge with rich fragrance and good taste. Taixing Yuanmai is a national product protected by geographical indications of agricultural products. Taixing Yuanmai is a traditional variety with excellent quality and a long history in the high sandy soil area of Taixing City. According to textual research, there have been related records of planting Yuanmai since Taixing was established as a county. At present, Taixing Yuanmai has a planting area of 50,000 mu, with an average yield of 400 kg per mu. "Taixing Yuanmai" is a naked barley variety improved and cultivated by Taixing Institute of Agricultural Sciences on the basis of traditional Taixing local barley varieties. It was approved by Yangzhou Variety Approval Committee in 1988. This variety is a semi-spring precocious variety, with semi-erect seedlings, strong seedling potential, moderate tillering and high panicle formation rate. Compact plant type, close planting resistance, plant height of 75-80cm, strong lodging resistance and good disease resistance; The ear layer is uniform, the yellow-brown oval grain has two edges, the color is bright yellow, the smell is fragrant, the grain size is medium, the seed coat is thin, and the ventral groove is shallow. The seed setting rate is relatively high, generally 30 grains per panicle, with a 1000-grain weight of 30-35g and a yield of 350-400kg per mu, with a yield potential of 500kg per mu. Taixing Yuanmai has the characteristics of low sugar, low protein, high content of crude starch and hemicellulose. Every 100g of Taixing Yuanmai contains 13.95g of protein, 2.24g of total soluble sugar, 58.41g of crude starch and hemicellulose, which are 0.25, 0.36 and 1.3 percentage points higher than those of Zhejiang 114 Yuanmai respectively. Taixing Yuanmai is mainly used to process Yuanmai flour, which is the main raw material of Zanzi porridge. The Zanzi porridge made of Yuanmai flour is known as "Taixing Coffee", which smells fragrant, tastes delicious, is refreshing and smooth, and tastes good. It is a good product to relieve summer heat and quench thirst in summer, and has won the welcome of consumers everywhere. In 2013, "Taixing Yuanmai" declared by Taixing Agricultural Science Research Institute passed the examination and expert review by the Agricultural Products Quality and Safety Center of the Ministry of Agriculture, and implemented the registration and protection of national agricultural products geographical indications. The geographical protection scope of Taixing Yuanmai includes 10 townships under the jurisdiction of Taixing City, such as Fenjie, Huangqiao, Yuanzhu, Heshi, Guangling, Quxia, Yaowang, Gensi, Zhang Qiao and Xuanbao. Geographical coordinates are 119 54 ′ 05 ″ east longitude ~ 120 21 ′ 56 ″ north latitude ~ 31 58 ′ 12 ″ north latitude. Taixing Yuanmai is a geographical indication product of agricultural products.
