Taizhou also has shadowless lanterns. According to Zhou Zhitao's Notes on Memories of Wu Ling, shadowless lanterns used to be one of Taizhou's famous specialties. Lantern shells are made of extremely fine bamboo sticks and silk, and then agar is melted (agar used to be called watercress, produced in Japan) and coated on the shell to form a thin film, which can avoid the wind. It is said that it is necessary to pay tribute to the palace every year. Therefore, there is a two-part allegorical saying in Taizhou: "The lanterns in Taizhou-there is no shadow." The most distinctive feature is the screen lamp, which consists of more than ten pictures. The silk is painted with stories of historical figures, including Hua Tuo, Guan Yu and Yue Fei, who are deified by various temples. Like comic books, it is a form of historical and cultural education, mostly written by local famous artists.
