Elk Elk, a national first-class protected animal, is commonly known as "four unlike", that is, its horn is like a deer, its head is like a horse, its body is like a donkey, and its hoof is like a cow. Originally a special animal in China, the wild population was extinct for about 150 years. The captive population in Nanhaizi Royal Hunting Park in Beijing, which has been kept in captivity for hundreds of years, was also extinct due to the war in 1900. In 1920, the last milu deer in China died in Wansheng Park in Beijing. From 1893 to 1895, the 11th Duke of England, Duke Befford, collected 18 elk scattered all over Europe and concentrated them in Wubang Temple Manor. This group of elk became the ancestors of the existing elk. In 1986, China brought back 39 milu deer from seven zoos in Britain, and now it has multiplied to 191 (according to statistics in 1994), and the deer herd ranks fifth in the world. Dafeng Elk Garden is the largest in the world.
