In the late 1970 s, due to the extensive promotion of Xinhuai pigs in Huaibei area, most of the local Huaihai pigs were replaced by Xinhuai pigs and their hybrids. By 1987, the central production areas of Huai pigs were mainly concentrated in Ganyu, Yizheng, Gaoyou, Liyang, Gaochun, Dongtai and Dafeng, and the number of sows ranked second among local sows in the province.
