Rugao radish

The white radish planted by Rugao people has a history of at least thousands of years. According to legend, in the Taihe period of the Tang Dynasty (827- 836), monks from Dinghui Temple in Rugao had planted radish as an offering and gave it to the donor, which was called Cai Zi, and its seeds were called Cai Zi for medicinal purposes. Later, it gradually spread among the people and was widely planted. Rugao County Records, edited in 1750 by Qing Qianlong, said: "Radish, a famous vegetable bowl, has two kinds, red and white, which can be planted at all seasons, but the last autumn is good, and the armor can be used for food. Those who have little soil are sweet and crisp, and those who have barren soil are hard and spicy." Nowadays, carrots are rarely planted, and only a few are listed before and after Duanyang Festival, mainly white carrots.
