Hai 'an County is a big county for producing eggs in Jiangsu Province. As early as the early 1980s, Hai 'an County was famous all over the country for "millions of roosters went down to the south of the Yangtze River". In 1997, Hai 'an County was awarded the title of "Hometown of Eggs in China", and in 2003, it was listed as a national comprehensive demonstration zone for standardized production of pollution-free eggs. Since the reform and opening up for more than 20 years, with the correct leadership of the county party committee and government and the care and support of the higher authorities, the poultry breeding industry led by laying hens has become a pillar industry and a characteristic industry with regional advantages in the current rural economy. Focusing on the services before, during and after delivery, the county has established and improved five systems, namely, improved seed breeding, animal husbandry and veterinary technology promotion and comprehensive disease prevention, input production and management, product quality and safety, and processing and circulation, which has promoted the sustained and stable development of the leading industry of poultry and eggs. In 2003, there were 25,594,800 poultry in the county at the end of the year, with a feeding capacity of 47,844,900. The total output of poultry eggs is 209,539 tons, and the per capita amount of poultry eggs in agricultural population is 300 kilograms; The output value of poultry industry is 1,124.68 million yuan (constant price for 90 years), accounting for 46.76% of the total agricultural output value; More than 1,000 yuan of farmers' per capita income comes from the poultry and egg industry. According to relevant data, in 2003, the number of poultry in Hai 'an, the total output of poultry eggs, the total output value of poultry eggs, the per capita possession of poultry eggs, the per capita income of farmers and the proportion of poultry eggs in the total agricultural output value all ranked first in the country.
