Lard popcorn is a specialty of shaxi town in Taicang City, Suzhou City, Jiangsu Province. Taicang lard rice candy, a traditional local product of Shaxi, is favored by more and more tourists. During Guangxu period (1900), Shen Zhizhi opened a "Dingshengxiang" bakery in Shaxi. Products are mainly peach slices, sesame cakes, fermented cakes and meat dumplings. In the second year (1901), inspired by popcorn, the lard popcorn was originally created and became a must in Taicang. Later, it became a good gift for Taicang people to visit relatives and friends. Since then, there have been pastry shops making rice candy in Shaxi, such as Ziyang Pavilion, but its taste is still "Dingshengxiang". Shaxi lard rice candy produced by Shaxi Dingshengxiang Bakery, founded by Shen Slow, was once famous in Shaxi and Taicang. After liberation, Dingshengxiang was a public-private partnership and became a Shaxi cake processing factory. After being laid off, Li Jianyong, an employee of Shaxi Brewery, inherited his production skills from Zhou Genbao, the former director of Shaxi Cake Factory, and produced lard popcorn. However, lard popcorn is seasonal, generally starting in October and ending in the Spring Festival of the following year; Limited by sales volume and time, Li Jianyong generally produces according to the needs of ordering.
