Baoyan Myrica rubra is a specialty of Yushan Town, Changshu City, Suzhou City, Jiangsu Province. Baoyan Myrica rubra is rich in fruit juice, moderate in sweetness and sourness, sweet in flavor, rich in sugar and ascorbic acid, and high in nutritional value. Fruit is not only for fresh food, but also one of the main raw materials in fruit processing industry. Myrica rubra, also known as Longqing and vermilion, is named Myrica rubra, which belongs to Myrica rubra family, because it is shaped like water poplar and tastes like plum. Baoyan Bay in Yushan, facing the back of the lake, is a good place to produce Myrica rubra. According to historical records, the history of planting Myrica rubra in Baoyan Bay at the southern foot of Yushan Mountain can be traced back to more than 900 years ago. As of June, 2007, there are more than 170 ancient Myrica rubra trees over a hundred years old in the Myrica rubra forest of Baoyan Ecological Sightseeing Park in Changshu City. There were 13 varieties of Myrica rubra in Baoyan, such as Mantis Seed and Crystal. In 1990s, it introduced water chestnut seed, plum seed and white Myrica rubra from Yuyao, Zhejiang Province, and introduced fine varieties of Myrica rubra such as "big leaf and fine pedicle" from Dongshan, Wuxian County. After long-term improvement, there are 16 varieties such as Xiaotianshan, Lotus Leaf Plate, MaoDidi, Laosuantou, Dayexiti, Xiaoyexii, Dongkui, Taohong, Zaohong, Mantis Seed and Crystal. Different from other varieties, such as black red, purple red, peach red and light red, the background color of crystal bayberry is "glass white" with red dots on it, which is the most distinctive local variety. Baoyan Myrica rubra is rich in fruit juice, moderate in sweetness and sourness, sweet in flavor and rich in sugar and ascorbic acid. The fruit acid contained in Baoyan Myrica rubra can not only stimulate appetite, promote fluid production, help digestion and relieve summer heat, but also prevent sugar in the body from transforming into fat, which is helpful to lose weight. For many years, Yangmei Festival has been held in Baoyan Ecological Sightseeing Park in June and July every year, and tourists gather.
