As early as 1956, there was an approval in the State Council that "Hu sheep is a rare breed and an export material, so special attention should be paid to its reproduction and development." In history, there were tens of thousands of sheep raised in Suzhou, and there were nearly 10,000 sheep at the peak of dongshan town, so the Hu sheep became a veritable characteristic breed in Suzhou. Dongshan Lake Sheep is a trademark of geographical indication.
