Whitebait is a famous specialty of Taihu Lake. Zhang Hua in the Jin Dynasty recorded in the Natural History: "Wu Wangjiang traveled, eating more than enough, abandoned it in the middle stream and turned it into a fish, named Wu Wangyu." Therefore, whitebait is also called residual fish or residual fish. During the reign of Kangxi in the Qing Dynasty, it was called the Three Treasures of Taihu Lake together with the fish and white shrimp.
