Xuhang straw weaving

Xuxing straw, produced in Jiading Xuxing, has a long history. As early as more than 1000 years ago in the Tang Dynasty, yellow grass woven goods had become one of the imperial tributes. At the beginning of the 20th century, the eastern and western straw culture began to exchange and develop. In 1914, the Italian foreign firm Stroros hired Wang Jihe and Zhu Shilin, local people in Xuhang, as agents to buy yellow grass fabrics from farmers in Xuhang and resell them to Southeast Asia, Europe and America. From then on, Xuhang Huangcao fabrics began to go abroad and enter the international market. In 1953, the dove slippers designed and knitted by Li Yueqin won the art medal at the Leipzig International Expo held in GDR. In 1956, Xu Xing's straw-woven craftsman attended the China Arts and Crafts Congress and was received by the party and state leaders. With the gradual expansion of Xu Xing's influence and the continuous improvement of artistic connotation, in 1994, Xu Xing Town was named as the "Hometown of Chinese Folk Art" by the Ministry of Culture of People's Republic of China (PRC), and in 2008, Xu Xing's grass was listed in the national intangible cultural heritage list.
