Grass willow weaving

Straw willow weaving has a long history in China, and the earliest straw weaving products that can be seen at present are made by Hemudu people, which has a history of 7000 years. The Book of Rites contains the Wan mat woven by cattail in the Zhou Dynasty. During the Spring and Autumn Period and the Warring States Period, there were hats made of Xuan Ma and Pu Cao. After the Qin and Han dynasties, straw weaving was widely used among the people, and straw sandals, straw mats, straw fans and-appeared. From the Han Dynasty to the prosperous Tang Dynasty, straw weaving became more developed and the types of products became more diverse. Wickerwork was produced in the Ming Dynasty, and folk craftsmen woven wicker into a variety of labor tools, such as basketry, basket carrying and dustpan. Grass willow weaving has a strong development foundation in Suiling. After the founding of the People's Republic of China, the grass willow weaving in Suiling County has gone through more than 50 years of development (namely, wickerwork products period, grass products period and grass willow weaving special art period), from scratch, from small to large, the types are increasing, and the styles are changing year by year, from the past single products such as soil baskets, dustpans, fish baskets, grass chips and grass braids to the production of hanging plates, baskets, flower baskets, bird's nests and other decorations and pendants.
