Fuling

Poria cocos, also known as Songling, Herbal Medicine and Fuzhu, is a kind of medicinal fungus with the functions of promoting diuresis and eliminating dampness, strengthening the spleen and calming the nerves. It is sweet, light, and flat in nature. It was first recorded in Shennong Herbal Classic and listed as the top grade. Zhang Zhongjing, a great doctor in Han Dynasty, used it as a monarch medicine in the prescription of Wuling Powder. Poria cocos, a fungus of Polyporaceae, is a sclerotium composed entirely of hyphae.
