Its roots are fleshy, cylindrical or spindle-shaped, often branched, and there are many warts on the fibrous roots. The stem is single and erect, and palmately compound leaves are born at the end of the stem. The number of leaves varies according to the growth years. The primary leaves are three pairs of compound leaves, called "Sanhuazi"; In the second year, it became a palmately compound leaf composed of five leaflets, commonly known as "slap"; In the third year, there are two palmately compound leaves, commonly known as "Erjiazi"; In the future, the number of leaves will increase with the increase of age. Those with three leaves are called "lamp stands", those with four leaves are called "four leaves", and those with five leaves and six leaves are "five leaves" and "six leaves" respectively. When the number of leaves increases in the future, the number of leaves will not increase. Ginseng began to blossom three years after birth, with the umbel terminal, small yellow-green flowers, ripe fruits from June to July and bright red berries from July to September, commonly known as "bright red top". Emperor Qianlong praised ginseng as "an ear hanging like a Tianzhu Dan" in "Ode to Ginseng", which vividly described the beautiful shape of this plant. Wild ginseng generally grows under mixed coniferous and broad-leaved forests dominated by Korean pine, and the selection of natural environment is strict. It mostly grows in loose sandy soil with deep humus, good drainage and suitable canopy density. Ginseng root has been used as medicine for more than 2,000 years.
