Iron ore is the dominant mineral in Liaoyang area, with 21 producing areas and a total reserve of 2.1 billion tons, ranking second in the province. The ore grade is between 26% and 35%, and there are six types of mineralization: one late magmatic iron deposit and three mineralization deposits, which are distributed in Longchang, Beizhuang, Xiaobeihe and Helan. Longchang is a vanadium-titanium magnetite spot, and the rest are small in scale and low in grade. There are two hydrothermal iron deposits in Daankou, Jidongyu, and two hematite sites in the red land of Taziling. There are six contact metasomatic iron ore producing areas, Erdaohezi is a small deposit, and there are five ore occurrences, namely Daxigou, Gunner Nangou, Longchang Town Yingchanggou, Daniuling and Xiaohuangling. The geographical distribution is concentrated from Daniuling to Helan Town, which generally belongs to small and rich autogenous magnetite and is suitable for local small-scale mining. There are 3 sedimentary iron ore producing areas, distributed around Xiangyang Temple, and 1 deposit, which is suitable for comprehensive mining. There are 15 producing areas of metamorphic iron ore, mainly distributed in the north and east of this city. Among them, Gongchangling and Daheyan are large-scale deposits, medium-sized deposits are Bapanling, Huangnigang, Dawanggou, Maerling, Pandaogou, Hongqibaozi and Yanlongshan, and small-scale deposits are Sandaoling, Tiaozigou and Yinjiangbaozi, and Chenjiabaozi, Fengshuigou and Gaojiabaozi are ore occurrences. Gongchangling Iron Mine has 6 ore-bearing beds, and some rich ores have a grade of 60%. This type of iron ore reserves is 98% of the whole region. Iron-hat iron ore deposits are distributed in Lingdong, Jiadonggou, Tuanshanzi, Hujiagou and Kangjiaxigou, but the scale is small and the reserves are small, which can be exploited locally.
