Dandong chestnut

Chestnut has been cultivated for two or three thousand years, and the cultivation of chestnut trees in Liaoning Province began in the late Ming and early Qing dynasties. Chestnuts can be eaten raw, fried with sugar, baked, canned, ground into cakes and cooked with spoons. It contains sugar, protein, fat and vitamins, and has high nutritional and economic value. (Dandong) There are two kinds of chestnuts in Dandong. One is Japanese chestnut, which was introduced from Japan at the beginning of this century and concentrated on large-scale cultivation. This kind of chestnut has large fruit, hard peeling and poor taste. One kind of chestnut is China chestnut, or oil chestnut, which is small in size, easy to peel and has good quality. In the past, chestnut was planted by seedling propagation, and there was no stable cultivated variety. Since 1970s, the main varieties such as Jinhua, Danze, Yuewang, Chang 'an No.10, 60, 13, Liaodan No.58 and 9113 have been formed by introducing excellent varieties for grafting, which are characterized by early fruiting, high yield, strong stress resistance and large fruit. Chestnut is the dominant economic forest tree species in Dandong, and the natural conditions are conducive to the production of chestnut in Dandong, accounting for more than 90% of the area and output in Liaoning Province. Dandong chestnut belongs to Japanese chestnut system, which is suitable for the taste demand of Japanese market, and chestnut meat accounts for 30% of the Japanese market. Dandong chestnut cultivation area has grown to 1.15 million mu, with an annual output of more than 20,000 tons and an annual output value of 150 million yuan. It has become an important production area and export base of chestnut in China. The scope of protection of geographical indication products of Dandong chestnut is subject to the scope proposed in the Letter of Proposal on Delineating the Geographical Indication Products Protection Area of Dandong chestnut in Dandong City, Liaoning Province (No.75, Danzheng [2006]), and it is the administrative area under the jurisdiction of donggang city and Fengcheng, Kuandian County, yuanbao district, Zhen 'an District and Zhenxing District in Dandong City, Liaoning Province. Dandong chestnut is a geographical indication protection product.
