Dandong City has a marine land area of 5.25 million mu, including 1.06 million mu of 0-10m isobath, which is suitable for increasing the culture area of shellfish bottom by 500,000 mu. The beach area is 363,000 mu, and the area suitable for shellfish cultivation is 188,000 mu. Two rivers, Yalu River and Dayang River, are injected into Dandong offshore, with flat sediment, moderate proportion of mud and sand, and rich bait organisms, making it an ideal place for shellfish growth and reproduction. Dandong shellfish are superior to other areas in color, specification, taste and fatness, and are well received from outside and inside. There are 41 species of marine shellfish in the whole city, and the main economic shellfish are Ruditapes philippinarum, Meretrix meretrix, Crayfish, Cymbidium sinensis, SINONOVACULA constricta, Clam Clam Clam, Chinese Clam, etc. After years of development, the shellfish breeding industry in Dandong has begun to take shape. By the end of 2000, the shellfish breeding area in the city had reached 591,000 mu, with an output of 78,000 tons and an output value of 459 million yuan. At present, there are 80 shellfish production units and more than 30 shellfish processing and distribution enterprises in the city with an annual processing capacity of more than 50,000 tons. Shellfish farming has become the leading industry and characteristic industry of Dandong fishery, and it is also an important shellfish production base in the province.
