Xiuyan tussah cocoon

Tussah cocoon is a traditional specialty of Xiuyan, and its stocking area and output rank first in China. Xiuyan is known as the "hometown of silkworm". There are abundant oak trees in Xiuyan, which are naturally generated. There are Mongolian oak, hemp oak, pineapple oak and so on. According to statistics in 1984, the tussah farm in the county covers an area of 2.17 million mu, accounting for 32.1% of the total area of the county. Since 2000, in order to do a good job in ecological construction and solve the contradiction between forest and silkworm, the county party committee and county government have adopted the method of optimizing stocking and appropriately reducing the stocking area of tussah. By 2003, the stocking area of tussah in the county was basically stable at about 1.5 million mu, and more than 15,000 tussahs were stocked. Efforts have been made to improve the scientific and technological content, popularize the new technology of stocking tussah, increase the unit output, and achieve the goal of stabilizing the total output of tussah cocoons in the county.
