Clivia "Steel City with Short Leaves"

Anshan people love to raise flowers, especially famous flowers, and they love gentleman orchids. In the 1970s, gentleman orchids were popular in Gangcheng, and almost every family raised Clivia. Everyone talked about Clivia, and the market bought and sold orchids. People are not satisfied with the original varieties, and study hard to cultivate new varieties. In 1984, people used the introduced Japanese orchids as the female parent, and hybridized with the fine varieties in this city. After years of breeding, they finally cultivated a new variety with the characteristics of straight and upright flowers, thick shaft, short and wide leaves, bright leaves, light and clear colors, raised veins and round ends. This new variety generally has a leaf length of about 25 cm, a leaf width of more than 10 cm, a flower bud, an upright flat, and a terminal umbel. The colors are orange and bright red, with dozens of flowers and spherical berries, from green to red. People gave it a simple name: "Steel City Short Leaves". Clivia, a "steel city short leaf", is favored and welcomed by people because of its green arrow leaves, gorgeous flowers and long flowering period, especially around the snowy Spring Festival, which gives people a sense of "flowers hibernate and I am in full bloom", plus the ornamental value of flowers, fruits and leaves. In the flower exhibitions held in Hong Kong in 1989 and 1990, the "Steel City Short Leaf" Junzi Orchid was exhibited and sold twice. And accepted the invitation of the DPRK to go to the country for exhibition in 1991. In September 1993, with great pride, Anshan people took part in the second China Flower Expo with their precious flower "Junzi Orchid with short leaves in Gangcheng", which won the gold medal and became the best among Junzi Orchids. At present, Anshan City can cultivate more than 100,000 "Gangcheng Short-leaf" orchids every year, which are not only sold to most parts of Northeast China and more than 10 provinces and cities in Guanzhong, but also gradually open to the international market.
