Big cherry, a temperate deciduous fruit tree, is mainly distributed in the temperate zone of the northern hemisphere. It is the earliest ripe high-quality fruit in northern China and is known as the "first branch of spring fruit". In mid-June, the big cherry in Jinzhou was fully matured. In order to let citizens and tourists taste the authentic big cherry in Jinzhou, the "Big Cherry Tasting Week" was grandly launched by agricultural tourism in Jinzhou District since 2005. On May 7th, 2008, at the press conference of "2008 China Dalian Cherry Festival" held in Beijing, the State Administration for Industry and Commerce officially handed over the certificate of geographical indications to Dalian officials, thus approving the registration of "Jinzhou Big Cherry" as the certification trademark of geographical indications in China. Large cherry has been cultivated in Jinzhou District for more than 100 years. According to Tanigawa's "Manzhou Fruit Tree" in 1906, the "Naong" variety of big cherry was introduced from abroad in Jinzhou District in 1906, which was first planted in Balizhuang, Jinzhou, and then spread to Sanlibao, Shihe, Qidingshan, Daweijia and other places, with a history of one hundred years. There are few areas suitable for planting big cherry in China, only Dalian in Liaodong Peninsula, Qingdao and Yantai in Shandong Peninsula and Qinhuangdao in Hebei Province can be planted. Because Jinzhou area is surrounded by the sea and mountains, the temperature difference between day and night is large, and large-scale harmless planting is adopted, the quality and taste of the big cherry produced are superior to those in other areas, and it is praised by consumers as "a wonderful fruit in the world". Jinzhou District registered the trademark of "Jinzhou Red" brand big cherry and became a famous brand agricultural product in Dalian. There are many varieties and wide areas of big cherry in Jinzhou District. The main cherry varieties planted in Jinzhou District before 1980s are: Naweng, Dazi, Jixin, Hongfeng, Pension, Late Red, Late Yellow and so on. The varieties cultivated after 1980s mainly include red light, Hongyan, Hongmi, Juhong, Jiahong and other sweet cherry varieties with good wintering ability, well-developed roots and strong disease resistance.
