Wallace melon is produced in Dengkou County, Inner Mongolia. The production area is located at the edge of Ulan Buh desert, which is the alluvial plain of the Yellow River. The soil layer is deep, the soil is fertile and contains a lot of organic minerals. The annual sunshine is more than 3OOO hours, the climate is dry, and the temperature difference between day and night is large; Rich in water resources, the annual precipitation is about 160 mm. Although it is dry and rainy, the Yellow River passes through the area and irrigation is convenient. Because of this special growth environment, Wallace melon has unique quality characteristics: bright skin color, thin skin and thick flesh, smooth and moist, sweet as honey, moderate juice, soft and crisp, with a variety of flavors such as peach, apple, litchi, banana and mango, and rich aroma, sweet and refreshing, rich nutrition and so on. In November 2005, it was known as the "fairy product in melon". Dengkou Wallace melon has a long planting history of nearly 70 years and has become a characteristic economic pillar industry in this county. In 1986, the Wallace Melon Research Institute was established in Dengkou County. Since its establishment, the Institute has devoted itself to the construction of Wallace Melon's improved seed propagation system, the introduction of new melon varieties, the application and promotion of new technologies for melon cultivation and assembly, and industrial services. With the popularization and application of greenhouse, small bow shed and field one-stop production mode and a series of new agricultural technology measures for assembly, the county has realized the balanced listing of Wallace melons all year round. In 1997, Dengkou County was awarded the title of "Hometown of Wallace Melon in China" by the Special Office of the State Council. Dengkou Wallace melon is a geographical indication certification trademark.
