Tongliao is known as the "hometown of printmaking". Tongliao prints are mostly based on the production and life of Mongolian people, with realistic content, simple style, rough lines, bright colors and strong ethnic and regional characteristics. In 1987, 100 Zalut prints were exhibited in Beijing National Culture Palace. In 1990, prints were exhibited in Beijing again. In the 10th National Print Exhibition, five works were selected, among which "Breath of Spring" won the bronze prize. The print "The Spring of Ottel" was selected in "The Collection of International Modern Fine Arts in the 20th Century". In 1990, 87 works were exhibited in Jiangsu Art Museum, and May, Lamb Picking, Prairie, Good Morning were collected by Jiangsu Art Museum. In the 13th National Print Exhibition, five works were selected, and Evening in Wuzhumuqin won the gold medal. The print "Autumn Wind" won the Bronze Award in the 14th National Print Exhibition. The creation of children's prints in Tongliao City began in 1983, which is the "paper watermark print" pioneered by children's school of Tongliao Power Plant. In 1985, 42 pieces were exhibited in the special exhibition of Kobe Education Center in Japan, and the Japanese audience appreciated this new type of children's prints very much. In 1984, Horqin District School for the Deaf instructed children to create "plaster relief prints". In July, 1985, China-China Art Research Association and Printmaking World jointly organized the "Printmaking Exhibition of Deaf Children in Inner Mongolia" in Tokyo, Japan. People from all walks of life enthusiastically visited it, and Asahi Shimbun and many TV stations interviewed it, which was broadcast more than seven times by Japanese TV stations alone. In 1986, 50 "Gypsum Watermark Prints" of Horqin District School for the Deaf were exhibited in Japan again. In August, 1985, Ms. Sanshanling, director of the Japan-China Art Research Association, and Mr. Li Pingfan, a famous printmaker in China, came to Tongliao to present the highest gold medal of the Japan Educational Printmaking Association to the children's school of Tongliao Power Plant and the school for the deaf in Horqin District. In 1986, the association awarded Ma Chengwu, a teacher of Horqin District School for the Deaf, the "Contribution Cup". In 1985, the printmaking works of Zhelimumu Normal School (now Tongliao Experimental Primary School) held a special exhibition in Tochigi, Japan, which was also well received by all walks of life and experts.
