Dingxiang melon

Dingxiang Melon is a specialty of Dingxiang County, Xinzhou City, Shanxi Province. The melon produced in Dingxiang County is thin and fleshy, sweet and crisp, juicy and refreshing, and is very popular among the people. Dingxiang melon is a geographical indication protection product of agricultural products. Dingxiang county is located in the east of Xinding basin, with a total area of 865 square kilometers. The north, east and south are surrounded by mountains, and the middle and west are flat valleys, which account for 47.7% of the total area, hills account for 21% and mountains account for 31.3%. The best condition for planting melon is soil with high salinity, which can not only promote fertility and early maturity, but also increase sugar and make melon fragrant. Xinding Basin has superior natural conditions, mild climate, wet saline soil, and many kinds of organic matter such as saline soil. Therefore, Xinding Basin has the custom of planting melons since ancient times, with a long history and traditional planting methods, which makes the melons produced here thin in skin and thick in flesh, sweet and crisp, juicy and refreshing, and quite popular among the people. In recent years, Dingxiang county government departments have intervened in melon planting, vigorously developed melon farmers to grow melons, and formed a characteristic agriculture for large-scale melon planting. Every summer, planting melons, selling melons and picking melons in Gua Tian along Dingxiang have become local characteristics, forming a unique melon market, which is praised as "hometown of melons" by local people and past diners. In 2013, "Dingxiang Melon" declared by Dingxiang County Economic Crops Association passed the expert review and became a geographical indication protection product of agricultural products.
