Jinnan cattle are produced in Jinnan basin in the lower reaches of Fenhe River in southwest Shanxi Province. Located in the lower reaches of Fenhe River, Jinnan Basin is rich in spring water and has a mild climate, which has the characteristics of continental semi-humid monsoon climate in warm zone. Summer is hot and rainy, with an annual average temperature of 10 ~ 14℃, annual precipitation of 500 ~ 650 mm and frost-free period of 160 ~ 220 days. Jinnan cattle are distributed in Wanrong, Hejin, Linyi, Yongji, Yuncheng, Xiaxian, Wenxi, Ruicheng and Xinjiang in Yuncheng area, as well as Houma, Quwo and Xiangfen in Linfen area. Among them, Hejin and Wanrong are Jinnan cattle provenance protection areas. Jinnan cattle is a large variety for both meat and meat. The body is tall and strong, with the appearance characteristics of service cattle. Bull's head is of medium length, with wide forehead, downwind angle, thick and short neck, well-developed drooping skin, broad chest, inconspicuous acromion, narrow buttock end, large and round hoof and dense texture; Cows have delicate heads, poor breast development, and smaller breasts. The coat color is mainly bordeaux, the nose mirror is pink, and the toes are mostly pink. Jinnan cattle are bulky, with large bust, long body, wide chest and back waist. The forequarters of adult cattle are more developed than the hindquarters, and they have a good working body shape. Appearance characteristics of Jinnan cattle: tall, strong and robust. Bull's head is moderate, with a wide forehead and a wide mouth, commonly known as "lion's head". The cow has a handsome head, a wide and slightly raised mustache, a deep and wide chest, a straight back and waist, a moderate length, a narrow rump, solid limbs, large and round hooves and a deep red hoof wall. Bull horn is round, horn root is thick, cow horn is flat, curved upward, the role is sallow, and the horn tip is purplish red. The coat color is mostly red, followed by yellow and brown, and the coat is shiny. The masses summarized the basic characteristics of Jin cattle: lion head, tiger mouth, rabbit eyes, downwind angle, wooden bowl hoof, forelimbs like columns, hind limbs like bows. The bull weighs 607.4 kg, is 138.66 cm tall, 157.4 cm long, 206.30 cm chest circumference and 20.20 cm tube circumference. The cow weighs 339.4 kg, is 117.4 cm tall, 135.20 cm long, 164.66 cm in bust and 15.60 cm in tube circumference. The steer weighs 453.9 kg, is 130.80 cm tall, 146.40 cm long, 182.90 in bust and 18.30 cm in tube circumference.
