Pinglu keel

The "keel" bought by Chinese medicine shops is actually not a "dragon's bone" or a "dragon's tooth". What we call "keels" are actually the bones of mammals that died out in Pliocene and Pleistocene (12 million-tens of thousands of years ago). When these animals were buried in the ground after death and their fur rotted, the remaining bones and teeth became fossils after long-term infiltration of minerals, which paleontologists called mammalian fossils. For example, the "five-flower keel" purchased by Pinglu County Medicinal Materials Company is mostly the front teeth and disc teeth of ancient elephants, while the white teeth and green teeth are the tooth fossils of rhinoceros, cattle, three-toed horse, three-door horse and deer. Medicinal materials companies are generally reluctant to buy those "keels" that don't stick to their tongues, which are completely fossilized vertebrate bones, teeth or antlers. Pinglu County is located in the Yellow River Basin, and the "Sanmen System" stratum in geology is quite developed in Pinglu, and contains very rich mammalian fossils. "keel" is a traditional Chinese medicine in China. According to the qualitative analysis of keel, it contains chemical elements such as calcium, potassium, aluminum and iron, and most of them are positive reactions of carbonate and phosphate. Keel bone is a commonly used medicine in clinic, which is used to treat mental disorder, insomnia, epilepsy, dizziness caused by deficiency of liver yin and deficiency of yang, and various physical weakness and slippage. Archaeologically, collecting keels can reflect the differences between ancient animals and modern animals, as well as its evolution process.
