Shangdang Duijin, commonly known as Changzhi Duihua, is a unique traditional handmade art in Shangdang area (now Changzhi City), one of the birthplaces of the Chinese nation. In April of the third year of Tang Shenlong (A.D. 707), when Li Longji, the Emperor of the Tang Dynasty who was not enthroned, took the handicraft piles made of silk from the palace to Shangdang ancient city and then flowed into the people. After thousands of years of historical vicissitudes, this handicraft skill is improving day by day. In 1915, Shangdang Duijin's four screens of "Spring, Summer, Autumn and Winter" won the Silver Award at the Panama Pacific Expo in San Francisco, which was well-known at home and abroad. In 2008, Shangdang Duijin was announced by the State Council as the second batch of national intangible cultural heritage list. In 2010, Shangdang Duijin participated in the Shanghai World Expo and gave a demonstration, which was praised by visitors at home and abroad. Shen Bicheng, the inheritor of Shangdang Duijin, was born in Duanshi, an ancient town in Sanjin in June, 1947. He studied painting since childhood, graduated from party member, a senior arts and crafts artist, the first batch of arts and crafts masters in Shanxi Province, and a Chinese Duijin artist. In 1968, he began to engage in the production, design and research of Shangdang brocade art, a unique skill of the Tang Dynasty, and was the first person in Shangdang brocade art to bring forth the new. His pile of brocade masterpieces participated in the first, second and third national arts and crafts exhibitions held in Beijing in 1972, 1978 and 1987, and then participated in the national arts and crafts exhibitions many times, and won many gold, silver, bronze and merit awards. In 2003, Bi Bicheng was rated as a national science and technology expert by China Arts and Crafts Society. In 2007, Shen Bicheng was named "Outstanding Inheritor of China Folk Culture" by China Federation of Literary and Art Circles and China People's Association. In 2009, Shen Bicheng was awarded the title of "China Intellectual Property Cultural Ambassador" by China National Intellectual Property Administration and the Museum of Chinese National Art Treasures. Shen Bicheng's pile of brocade has won many awards from the state, industry associations and other relevant departments and fields, among which the pile of brocade "Guanyin Manjusri vajrapani" and "White Tara" won the "Hundred Flowers Cup" and "Tiangong Art Garden Hundred Flowers Cup" China Arts and Crafts Boutique Award; Duijin's fine works, such as Panorama of Buddhist Temple, Wei Tai Hang and Five Buddha Mothers of Xiangshou, were rated as "Chinese National Art Treasures" by National Cultural Heritage Administration and the Museum of Chinese National Art Treasures. Shangdang Duijin Cultural Industrial Park is composed of Shanxi Shangdang Duijin Culture and Art Co., Ltd., Shanxi Changzhi Duijin Research Institute, Shangdang Duijin Art Museum, and Artists Studio of China Arts and Crafts Society, etc. Its purpose is to make Shangdang Duijin cultural industry bigger and stronger, and become the most vital and dynamic traditional cultural industry in contemporary times.
