In the Song Dynasty, the sand goods in Pingding Kiln were already very famous, as evidenced by the stone tablet records of Petunia Town in the north of Yangquan City. In the Ming Dynasty, the sand products of Pingding Kiln were comparable to those of Yixing, Jiangsu, Dehua, Fujian and Shiwan, Guangdong. It is said that when Emperor Kangxi of the Qing Dynasty fell ill, he sent envoys to Pingding to buy a casserole for decocting medicine, and named it "Dragon Pot". In this way, pingding sand goods gained great fame. "Dragon-shaped pot" is especially passed down as an artifact of decocting medicine. After the founding of the People's Republic of China, Pingding sand goods were exhibited in Beijing Light Industry Exhibition Hall and participated in the Canton Fair, which were exported to all parts of the country and Southeast Asian markets. Pingding produces sand goods and has superior natural conditions. There are abundant bauxite and clay resources around the county, which are pure in color, few in impurities, soft and plastic, and anthracite with convenient transportation and low price, which is suitable for burning sand goods. Pingding people make full use of these material conditions and technological skills handed down from generation to generation, and all kinds of sand goods are produced through the processes of soil selection, mud mixing, molding, liquid feeding, air drying, kiln burning and smoking, without sand holes, cracks, inclusions and deformation. Now Beizhuang, Changjiagou, Zhangzhuang, Dongma, Xima and Liushuyu in Pingding County are all concentrated producing areas of sand goods.
