After many years of experiments, the county forestry department cultivated a new walnut variety "Lingqiu No.1", which was awarded as No.81177 excellent tree planting in Shanxi Province in 1981. In recent years, a number of high-quality dwarf new varieties have been introduced. Walnut has high nutritional value. According to the determination, the nutritional value of one kilogram of walnut kernel is equivalent to five kilograms of eggs or nine kilograms of milk. Now medicine believes that walnuts have a good effect on kidney deficiency, low back pain, asthma, constipation, weakness, etc. Regular consumption can prolong life, which is really a good tonic. As of 2007, the walnut planting in Lingqiu has reached 67,000 mu, and the fruit has reached 21,000 mu, with an annual output of 1.5 million Jin. Walnuts in Lingqiu are unique in Datong, Yanbei, especially in Xiaguan, a famous hometown of walnuts. Walnut trees in Lingqiu are widely distributed and numerous, with full fruits and high nutritional value, making them the top products of dried nuts, and the varieties are rare in China.
