Coal carving

Coal carving works were recorded as early as the Eastern Han Dynasty in China. Pieces of discarded coal gangue have become vivid works of art after being carefully carved by Shi Yuping, a folk artist in Datong, Shanxi. Yungang giant Buddha, great man and Mazu, one by one, are as realistic as black-and-white photography. Datong coal carving is made of tree fossils deep in Datong coal seam and carefully ground. The works are clear in texture and delicate in stone, which really gives life to coal art. Datong is a famous coal town in China, where a large number of glittering and translucent coal is bred. In addition to the warmth brought by coal burning, a long-standing but little-known art form has quietly appeared in front of the world-"coal carving". When coal is endowed with various images, this supernatural artistic vitality is also outstanding.
