The cultivation of Pleurotus ostreatus began in 1986 in Beizhanghuai Township, jizhou city, Hengshui. After nearly 20 years' development, it has now formed the largest production base of Pleurotus ostreatus in China, with Beizhanghuai as the center and radiating to 11 towns in the city and neighboring cities and counties such as Nangong, Xinhe and wei county. In 1999, it was named the "Hometown of Edible Fungi in China" by the Ministry of Agriculture, and was named the "National Edible Fungi Commodity Base County" by the China Edible Fungi Association in 2000, and the "Yuji" brand Pleurotus ostreatus was named the "Top Ten Famous Brand" products in China. By 2007, the number of edible fungi growers in the township has reached 3,000, and the number of edible fungi greenhouses has grown to 3,200, with an annual output of 16,000 tons. In terms of varieties, more than a dozen new varieties of edible fungi have been developed, such as Coprinus comatus, Agaricus bisporus, Pleurotus eryngii, Pleurotus ostreatus and Ganoderma lucidum. Jizhou Huaxin Agricultural and Sideline Products Co., Ltd., a Sino-Japanese joint venture, introduced advanced production equipment, finely processed edible fungi, produced quick-frozen edible fungi series products and sold them directly to Japan, South Korea, Singapore and European and American countries.
