Sole sesame seed cake is a specialty of Zaoqiang County, Hengshui City, Hebei Province. The history of Zaoqiang sole sesame seed cake can be traced back to a man named Song Shanzhuang (1895-1969) in Zaoqiang County. In the early years of the Republic of China, he baked sesame cakes in the Songjia Hutongkou, east of Nantou Road, Old Cross Street, the county seat. He learned to make sesame cakes from his distant uncle Song Shanzhuang in his early years. In the mid-1940s, he also opened a baked wheat cake workshop in Old Cross Street, the county town, and went to Jixian City to do baked wheat cake business three years later. After the reform and opening up, he went out of the dining hall of Zaoqiang County to go it alone and returned to his old job at Old Cross Street.
