Hengshui writing brush Hengshui has been rich in writing brushes since ancient times, and is known as the "holy land of writing brushes". Its main producing area, Houdian Brigade, is known by the world as the "hometown of writing brushes" in the northland. Every year on the third day of the third lunar month, artists from Hengshui brush producing area get together like the Chinese New Year to commemorate the founder of the brush, Meng Tian. According to relevant documents, "Qin Mengtian began to use rabbit hair bamboo tube as a pen." It was the third day of March. During the Guangxu period of Qing Dynasty, Li Wenkui, a brush artist from Hengshui, once opened a pen shop in Beijing, and a eunuch who loved calligraphy became brothers with him. He often bought his brush into the palace and was appreciated by the emperor. Hengshui brush is exquisite in workmanship and excellent in quality. Its pen tip is made of various elastic and tough animal hairs, such as yellow wolf tail, fragrant raccoon tail and Nanshan wool, which are carefully processed. Therefore, the pen tip has the characteristics of toughness, flexibility, large ink content and durability. Pen holders are mostly made of arhat bamboo, Eichhornia crassipes, Xiangfei bamboo, white-faced bamboo, purple bamboo, spotted bamboo and precious mahogany. Mouth filling and capping are mostly made of teeth, bones, horns, bamboo and wood carving, and are inlaid and assembled by technology, which is very delicate and unique. Hengshui brush is rich in variety and exquisite in decoration. Only Houdian Brigade Brush Factory has created more than 170 new varieties such as Fengyun, Shuiyue and Guyu. Some of them are embossed with "Single Dragon Plate Column", "Two Dragons Playing with Beads" and "Dragon Playing with Phoenix", some are carved with figures such as "Mu Guiying in command", "Cowherd and Weaver Girl" and "Fu Lu Shou Xi", and some are also carved with famous poems, adding a magnificent style to the brush headed by "Four Treasures of the Study".
