Hawthorn in Longhua

Longhua hawthorn is a specialty of Longhua County, Chengde City, Hebei Province. Longhua county is rich in hawthorn. Boiled with hawthorn, sugar and purified water, filtered and sweated. The beverage is sweet and sour, and has the effects of relieving summer heat, stimulating appetite, promoting fluid production, softening blood vessels and lowering blood pressure. Hawthorn industry used to be a brilliant industry in Longhua County. In 1986, there were nearly 10,000 family hawthorn orchards in the county. However, since the 1990s, the price of hawthorn has fallen sharply due to the influence of market economy, resulting in a sharp drop in the area of hawthorn garden in the county from 120,000 mu to 76,000 mu. Since 2006, the medical and health care value of hawthorn has been gradually re-recognized and widely accepted by people. After careful investigation, Longhua County Party Committee and county government believe that it is necessary to support and expand leading enterprises in order to revitalize hawthorn industry. After two years' efforts, in 2008, Longhua County Government signed a comprehensive food and fruit processing project with an investment of 200 million yuan with Huiyuan Group. This year, Huiyuan Group will build a fruit pulp production line with an annual output of 5,000 tons, a canned fruit production line with an annual output of 10,000 tons, a hawthorn kernel oil extraction workshop, an activated carbon production workshop, ancillary supporting production facilities, a research and development center, a quality inspection center and other office facilities in Zhongguan Town. After the project is put into production, it is estimated that the annual output value will be 200 million yuan and the tax will be 20 million yuan, and the per capita income of 80,000 fruit farmers will be increased by radiation above 300 yuan.
