Huailai grape is a specialty of Huailai County, Zhangjiakou City, Hebei Province. Huailai grape cultivation is famous all over the country for its long history, large production scale and good quality, especially for white milk and longan grapes. Huailai County is located in the golden zone of grape planting at 40 north latitude, with an average annual temperature of 8.9℃ and an average annual precipitation of 400 mm. It has the climatic characteristics of distinct seasons, abundant sunshine, the same season of rain and heat, and large temperature difference between day and night. The unique regional microclimate, diverse landforms and various types of sandy soil are very suitable for grape growth, and it has been recognized by experts at home and abroad as one of the best wine-making and table grape cultivation areas in China. Huailai has a history of grape cultivation for thousands of years, and the white milk and longan grapes produced are famous far and wide. The warm spring longan grapes are the best tribute and state banquet in the past dynasties. At present, the grape market in Huailai county is divided into three stages: early, middle and late. The early-maturing varieties are: Zhana, Qingti, Victoria, Baiyu, seedless white, etc. Medium-ripe varieties are: white horse milk, etc. Late-maturing varieties are: Longan and Hongti. Huailai gave full play to the advantages of natural resources and traditional grape planting, actively adapted to market demand, expanded the scale to build bases, and led the deep processing of leading enterprises. The grape industry developed rapidly and became the first characteristic leading industry in Huailai. At present, the county's grape planting area has reached 215,000 mu, covering more than 50,000 farmers in 17 townships, with more than 150 varieties, forming a planting pattern of three series, namely, wine-making, fresh food-making and wine-making, and combining early, middle and late ripening. The annual grape production is 120,000 tons, accounting for 4% of the country's total grape production, and the grape planting income accounts for more than 80% of the per capita net income of farmers in the main producing areas, and it is industrialized. In 2001, it was named "China Grape Town" by the National Committee of Specialty Hometown.
