Baiyangdian shrimp

Baiyangdian Shrimp is a specialty of Anxin County, Baoding City, Hebei Province. Macrobrachium nipponense is a traditional species in Baiyangdian waters. Baiyangdian green shrimp, with its thin skin and tender and delicious meat, is known as one of the three famous rare green shrimp producing areas in history. Macrobrachium nipponense is a freshwater shrimp endemic to Japan and China. In China, freshwater shrimps are widely distributed in rivers and lakes in the north and south. Shallow lakes such as Baiyangdian Lake and Hengshui Lake in Hebei Province are more suitable for the growth of freshwater shrimp. In particular, Baiyangdian green shrimp is known as one of the three famous rare green shrimp producing areas in China in history for its thin skin and tender and delicious meat. However, in recent years, with the change of water level in the lake area and overfishing, the resources of freshwater shrimp have dropped sharply, and the price of commercial shrimp has soared. At present, the price is as high as 80-100 yuan/kg. In order to restore this excellent species resource, protect the ecological environment of natural waters and increase fishermen's income, it is of great significance to study the artificial breeding and aquaculture of freshwater shrimp in Hebei Province. The project "Research and Application of Reproductive Growth Regulation and Healthy Breeding Technology of Macrobrachium nipponense" began in January 2009. After comprehensive investigation and study, the results showed that the historically famous aquatic product, Macrobrachium nipponense, had never been artificially cultivated in Baiyangdian area because there was no source of seedlings, and it mainly relied on catching natural wild Macrobrachium nipponense to supply the market, with low yield and declining natural resources year after year. Combined with the project of conservation zone of Baiyangdian aquatic germplasm and the construction of the original seed farm of Macrobrachium nipponense, the project team conducted the research on artificial breeding of Macrobrachium nipponense in 2010, preliminarily found out the technical points of artificial breeding of Macrobrachium nipponense fry in Baiyangdian, and basically mastered the production technology of Macrobrachium nipponense fry in cage. In July, 2010, the project cultivated 1.8 million shrimps with a body length of 1.0 cm-1.2 cm, with a survival rate of 28.8%, exceeding the annual target of 1.5 million. In 2012, the original seed farm is expected to hatch and produce 150 million shrimps, which will not only meet the needs of farmers in the surrounding areas of Baiyangdian, but also gradually radiate the whole province. The industrialization development of Baiyangdian freshwater shrimp can not only restore the historical reputation of the region as a producing area of rare freshwater shrimp, but also bring great economic, social and ecological benefits to the county.
