Jize Chili

Jize County, Hebei Province is rich in peppers, which have been planted since the Sui Dynasty for more than 1300 years. Because of its long planting history, the peppers produced are of high quality. By the Ming and Qing Dynasties, they had been a tribute to the court and one of the main condiments in the imperial kitchens, and their popularity was very high. Jize pepper, also known as horn pepper, has been a traditional and precious local product in our county and province for many years, and it is also a famous brand product that the country exports to earn foreign exchange. In 1983, it was awarded the honorary certificate of high-quality products by the Ministry of Foreign Trade and Economic Cooperation, and in 1985, it was awarded the title of national high-quality products by the Ministry of Commerce. In 1996, Jize County was named the hometown of pepper in China by the organizing committee of China specialty town. Since the implementation of the responsibility system, the production autonomy has been expanded. Due to the high income of pepper planting and the high enthusiasm of the masses, its planting area has increased year by year, from less than 20,000 mu in 1982 to 80,000 mu now, which has also led to 142 processing enterprises and stalls in the county, with more than 31,000 pepper farmers engaged in planting and more than 11,000 engaged in processing and sales every year. The annual output value of pepper accounts for more than 30% of the total rural social output value. Jize pepper is a geographical indication certification trademark.
