Melons, also known as thick-skinned melons and cantaloupes, belong to melons. Honeydew melon is a kind of high-grade and best-selling fruit in the international market with high output value and high exchange rate. In October, 2002, at the 6th China (Langfang) Agricultural Products and Superior Varieties Fair, the "Luanzhou" honeydew melon was rated as a famous agricultural product. The special geographical and natural environment makes the melons in Luanxian enjoy a high reputation among many consumers. Because of the sufficient light and large temperature difference here, the melon in greenhouse has high sugar content and good taste, and is called Luanzhou honeydew melon, which is exported to North China and Northeast China. At the beginning of the new century, Lang Hong, a farmer in Xiaomazhuang Town of this county, invested 600,000 yuan to build a multi-span shed covering an area of 33 mu, which became the "first shed in Hebei" at that time. After the 40,000 greenhouse melons planted in the second year went on the market, the income in that year was more than 300,000 yuan, ten times higher than that in general agricultural planting. Driven by Lang Hong, the whole town set off an upsurge of planting melons in greenhouses. In just a few years, 550 melon greenhouses have been built in Xiaomazhuang Town alone, covering an area of more than 1,000 mu, and it has become a well-known shed melon contiguous community. Melon varieties have also increased the series of Jing Tian, Elizabeth and Hongcheng, which completely reached the pollution-free standard. After it was put into the market, it was well received by consumers. Luanzhou honeydew melon not only sells well in the surrounding markets, but also is more than 30% higher than similar products.
